8 worst Travel Trailer Brands To Avoid
Winnebago Travel Trailer
|PRICE RANGE||$24,000 to $39,000|
This travel trailer brand has been around for quite some time already and has been operating since 1958. Winnebago is one of the leading brands when it comes to great travel trailers. They gave goof quality trailers for a long time however, due to demands some essentials were compromised.
The market demand for RV became so high it seems that it has affected the quality control of their production. There are instances where you’ll receive a trailer with damaged walls, bent panels, loose components, and lighting system that fails without warning. These are the result of what seems to be a poor quality control from Winnebago.
Although other products of this brand are in good quality they seem to have a lot of drawbacks with their travel trailers. They have some issues about violating the safety regulations due to the production of their products. Making this one of the companies people go to when they look for their travel companions.
Aside from that, a lot of clients were not given proper customer service whenever a problem arises with their trailers.
This lack of quality and unprofessionalism has led to clients staying away from Winnebago trailers. Yes, they cost less but they don’t want to waste their money on something that will not last and keep them safe on their every travel.
So, if you’re looking for good travel trailers, this is one of the brands you need to avoid as their quality and service do not pass our standards.
Fleetwood Travel Trailer
|OPERATING SINCE||1950 (Housing) / 2001 (RV)|
|PRICE RANGE||$16,000 – $32,000|
Fleetwood has been the business for more than six decades and is one of the most long-running brands for housing. When 2001 arrived they decided to venture RV business including travel trailers. They are on top of their game when it comes to building homes and producing RVs and trailers.
However, as time went by the recent models have shown many defects and shortcomings. The quality has dropped drastically than before as clients began to notice a lot of unpleasant construction on their trailer from Fleetwood. This includes low-quality interior making their trailer degrade and age much faster.
One other thing that they noticed with Fleetwood’s trailer is their RV battery that sometimes won’t charge. Their black water tank is prone to leaking adding more stress to your camping experience. The fabric used in the trailer’s interior is not in good quality and deteriorated in hot weather.
But the worst experience for clients who own Fleetwood Trailers is the company refuse to honor their warranty despite all the complaints about their defects. This drew the line for their clients making this company one of the brands to avoid when it comes to trailers. Poor quality and poor services.
Due to that, in 2009 Fleetwood decided to exit the travel trailer business and only focus on their two great businesses; houses and RVs. However, some dealers are still selling some Fleetwood’s travel trailers but they are no longer produced.
Gulf Stream Travel Trailer
|PRICE RANGE||$11,000 – $84,000|
One of the highly sought after brands due to their performance and popularity. Gulf Stream has been producing quality trailers since 1983.
However, the later products raise a lot of issues with the brand’s clients due to its lack of quality. The major issues they are facing about their products are leaking and rusting. The materials are not in good quality that they easily rust and some parts are not installed properly causing leakage. The interior degrades and lowers your comfort while you are using the vehicle.
The leakage causes the trailer to rust easily and it’s not a good thing. It shows the low-quality material used on the trailer and the quality control is out of hand. The owners are in outrage as they can’t stand all the rust in their trailer due to the parts that are not installed properly.
The customer service is responsive and helpful however, they charge extra for their services. We don’t find it okay to charge for issues that are caused by the company. It’s not worth the hassle. That’s why we highly suggest avoiding this company if you don’t want any headache and health issues due to poorly made trailers.
You might not hear of this RV company before and there’s a reason why you haven’t. It’s because consumers are avoiding this brand due to all issue it gave to its clients.
During the first years that Thor started selling their RVs, a lot of clients complained about the products and a lot of RVs were recalled. A lot of them taught that they’ll go home with an RV that includes all the good parts, but that’s not the case with Thor’s RV. You’ll end up with a collection of well-used parts than a complete RV.
The quality of the product is not up to specs and it comes with a wide range of difficulties. The structures are weak and malfunctioning features are present all over the vehicle.
Most of the complains are a fire hazard, improper awning installation, failing BBC and ineffective parking brake which were fixed by the company. However, some of these issues still show up on the latest versions of RV. Additional issues followed like incorrect weight rating which can make be a big problem if you load too much weight.
If you ask professionals and those long-time RV users they really won’t recommend this brand. We won’t recommend it as well.
|PRICE RANGE||$15,000 – $35,000|
Coachmen have been selling RVs since the 1960s and they are known for their flashy styles and lavish interiors. This gives the appearance of a high-quality trailer.
Over the years their quality of products shifted back and forth. Some versions are great, some versions are not. However, the new release made them hit rock bottom. Clients are disappointed with the number of issues that come up immediately after purchasing rather than experiencing it after a long life and a lot of use.
Most of the issues that they’ve experienced are interior which impacted the client’s experience as the company boasted about their interiors a lot. The drawers and the slides are flimsy and easy to break so they cannot hold too much weight.
A lot of reviews also pointed out that those basic things are not present in some models. There are missing or bent screws, broken levers, and missing valves. Leakage is another problem that they experienced with this brand. It was spotted around the vent, the shower, and the sink. This caused the floor to quickly degrade the floorings. To make it worse the leakage is unbearable if you use the RV in rainy and humid weather.
Although a lot of people still trust this brand, we still recommend that you think twice about buying their trailers. It’s a hit or miss whenever you buy from them. Some models will be good some will have problems. So always check your trailers from them if you want to get one.
|PRICE RANGE||$17,000 – $61,000|
This is also one of the brands that people share divided opinions about their trailers. It’s because some models are great, some are not. Some trailers delivered or produced are great while some have a lot of issues.
A lot of people felt cheated because of the issue they experienced after they bought the trailer and took it home with them. They realized you paid more than you should for their trailer.
The issues are not based on how it looks but it’s about the trailer not being able to do its job. There’s a lot of malfunctioning parts and leakage is all over the place. Jayco features a wide array of built-in facilities that appear quite attractive at first glance. However, these features faile after a while or even after a couple of use and that leads to huge maintenance expenses.
The issues include water leakage, ventilation not properly installed, missing fixtures and interiors that easily break or degrade. All these add to the cost of owning one of their trailers and a lot of clients are not happy with it.
There are features that work properly but why bother getting one that needs constant maintenance and fixing rather than getting a trailer that will function completely without any issues for a long time?

This company have marketed as the most durable travel trailer while being economical on fuel and have spacious interiors. However, it was still not one of the most recommended trailers by travelers.
There are a lot of complaints from clients about this trailer that includes structural and technical issues. They claim that the cabinet doors fall off the hinges within short periods of time. The control board is difficult to manipulate.
Due to these issues, it is now hard for clients to believe that Keystone trailers are durable and economical. The issues from exterior to interiors are not something you want to pay for every time you’ll be using the trailer.
The customer care is not a great help whenever these issues arise. Unreliable post-purchase support made it a deal-breaker for travelers. We wouldn’t want you to go thru the process of finding one issues after another without any help from the company. So just stay away from this brand.
Forest River Travel Trailer
|PRICE RANGE||$14,000 – $30,000|
Currently owned by Berkshire Hathaway, Forest River is one of the largest American Manufacturers of trailer and RVs. Their products include travel trailers, fifth wheels, pop-up campers and other variations of RVs. Due to its popularity, it has gained its name as one of the top brands for recreational vehicles before however it has changed over time.
The clients of Forest River has slowly lost its trust due to various reasons, complaints and issues. One of those is leakage causing the interior to degrade, issues about sinking floors making people worry about using the trailers for long travel and when you ask help from their customer service they won’t help you out nor listen to your feedback.
Forest River still has loyal clients who still have hope for the company to improve their services just like how good they were before. It’s because the issues don’t apply to all their trailer models. It’s only for some models that the issues really apply. There are still some models that are in great quality and can be trusted for long term use. So not unless Forest River acknowledges that some of their models are not good and either improve them or remove them from the list we still won’t recommend this product.
Another thing to note when you’re looking for a trailer is to be keen on the brands that you want to invest in by buying one of their trailers or RV.

Here are additional things you need to consider when you’re looking for a travel brand:
User Reviews: Listen to what your fellow campers are saying. All of them have their own go-to brands for their travel needs, especially their RVs and travel trailers. Ask for their opinions and their favorite brands. Aside from that, check online for other users’ reviews and feedback. Check the brand’s website and other sellers’ websites for reviews to help you decide if it’s a good brand or not. Honest reviews will help you out.
Camping Location: Some brands do not have the type of trailer or RV that you need for your desired camping locations. If you have favorites spots that require more features that can help your trailer or RV to go from home to that camping site then you should consider brands that have those features. Brands have a wide range of trailers and RVs but some of them don’t have the feature you need. So be keen on this. Know your location’s environment to know which one to choose.
Your Vehicle: This applies if you’ll be getting a trailer truck. It would be best if it’s compatible with your truck or SUV. Know your vehicle’s capacity to help you in deciding which trailer to choose. Remember that it should not put too much weight on your SUV.
