Worst travel trailer brands according to reviews:
Overall Review Summary:
Although the Coachmen is a subsidiary of the Forest River RV brand, one of the better RV brands around, its reputation has been tainted over the years with a lot of complaints.
Despite the presence of the brand being on the market since 1964, and the fact that the brand has produced various types and models, the vehicles ended up not meeting or hardly meeting the unique needs of RV enthusiasts.
First of all, it is important to mention that this RV has an impressive design and elegant features such as thermostats with programmable levels. But if we take that away, some reasons why you should avoid this RV brand include:
It lacks a fresh water drain valve. This issue can be found in the 2016 Coachmen Brookstone. In addition, every time you move something, screws and pieces of electrical insulation bits fall off (2016 Coachmen Brookstone). The Brookstone has many loose and curved screws that help indicate to you that the quality of the travel trailer is poor.
Other exterior problems include breakage of the electric leveling system, Air conditioner, and poor construction of the exterior paneling around the wheel wells
Additional problems specific to the Brookstone’s interior include breakage of the lounge chair, problems with slide-outs, leakage in the shower, poor quality material in the passenger seat, which will wear out shortly after starting to use the RV. Other problematic models include the 2015 Coachmen/Freelance Express, 2015 Coachmen Prism, 2016 Coachmen Brookstone, and Coachmen 276rkda.
With the long list of problems and difficulties, it is not surprising that most first-time users, as well as long-time brand owners, are disappointed by the interior quality of the RV.
From an appliance/options perspective, some still swear by this RV brand. These die-hard owners have stuck with this brand of RV for such a long time and tout that they work well, they have become imprinted for so long that it is difficult to take away what kind of problems they have ignored. However, looking at the number of negative reviews by this RV brand, certain models should be avoided and likely it might be best to keep your eyes peeled for something else altogether.
Overall Review Summary:
The Keystone brand is marketed as a durable travel trailer that touts excellent pulling ability with a spacious interior, but many don’t think it quite cuts it for most travellers.
For me I have a love hate relationship with this brand. The first travel trailer I used was a Keystone Hideout and I liked this trailer a lot.
However, when I needed something a little bit bigger, I opted to go with the Keystone Fusion Toy Hauler model and was very disappointed with it.
While it looked great on the outside, the poor construction and the many issues with the model including the appliances and electrics are something that I will never let go of due to the negative experience surrounding the outing.
Externally speaking the Keystone has a nice luxury look to it but upon further inspection, the quality of the material was a bit poor in my opinion.
Just driving down a dirt road proved to me that the exterior was not well constructed due to all the dings and dents to the front of the travel trailer.
Boondocking was problematic especially if there were trees along the road. Hit a small limb and you had a nice big scratch down the side.
There are several complaints by owners and users including structural and technical issues. Lucky for me, I had rented the Fusion Toy Hauler but the trip I used it on cost me a considerable amount of money due to its poor construction.
As far as the interior, there are some reports of the cabinet doors falling off and having poorly designed control boards.
For me personally, it had many interior features that stopped working or would just outright break such as converting from electric to gas which could not switch from gas to electric or vice versa very well.
Or there were items I just couldn’t use at all (microwave, stove, or couch)
As mentioned, I had many issues with the microwave, stove, and fridge. A couple days into our trip and the food was beginning to go bad because the electrics were not working and the gas was not switching over.
Considering these shortcomings, this brand may not be your best choice. Again, I encourage you to do your due diligence beforehand and ensure that there is some sort of warranty or extended warranty if things start to turn for the worse.
Overall Review Summary:
For many the Winnebago travel trailer brand is a bag of mixed nuts. For some owners and renters, it is one they will use forever, but for many, this travel trailer is a brand that they would likely not waste time or resources on.
As a brand that is newer and considered the most improved travel trailer brand on the market, it still does have many fans.
While the name is well known if you dive a bit deeper into the reviews you will find that it does have some drawbacks.
If you look at the reviews many complaints are associated with the finishing found on the walls and the placement of the front walls.
There are some who do not like the inner walls because they look bent and make the trailer feel unsafe.
With so many poorly constructed items, repairs are costly due to the numerous times in the repair shop. This gets frustrating and expensive.
As we move into the interior there are many complaints about the electrical faults. The general consensus was that the electrics did not work properly or had shorts in them.
This again, is costly to repair and many complaints were found with the manufacturer not honoring the warranties.
Other items to note were that many felt that they were not valued as a customer and did not get sufficient answers to their questions or found that the response was not handled in a timely manner.
While the brand name is well known, the stress and unprofessional nature shown to customers was apparently obvious in making the decision to avoid this brand.
Not much was said about the appliances or options for the brand but as noted with the electrics, this affects many of the key features of the RV/Trailer itself. Again, proper due diligence is needed if looking at this brand.
Overall Review Summary:
There is a lot said about the Hurricane RV. Unfortunately, the brand’s popularity isn’t because this is the best creation by Thor Motor Coach but because the travel trailer brand comes burdened with numerous issues that leave owners and users with regrets.
If we were to gauge an RV by the interior design alone, then this would be the best RV as it has working stations, enough family space, and a big enough kitchen. However, that isn’t what customers are seeing.
This brand is currently down nowhere on the list of the best travel trailers because of several reported issues. The problems with this travel trailer include, but not limited to:
The hydraulic lines used for the auto-stabilizer jacks are of poor quality, and they ooze hydraulic fluid. The lines are also flimsy, and they can fly off when driving.
The company delivers poor customer service to its customers, and you may have to cover repairs out of pocket because they may deny you the warranty.
Even when new, you will have some issues to deal with, and you will be surprised when you find that most of the materials used aren’t new.
Taking all these into account, this isn’t the best travel trailer to buy, and experts advise against it.
Although the users of this travel trailer share divided opinions, the RV doesn’t have glowing reviews all over.
Soon after buying it and after getting it home, you will realize that you paid for more than you should. Not because it looks terrible but because most parts do not function as they should.
It requires a lot of work once it starts malfunctioning. Water floods the interiors, and there are several missing fixtures. There also are issues with the oven hood and the installation of the toilet seat which is crooked.
Considering all the reviews and the experiences of unhappy customers, it is clear that this travel trailer is cheaply and poorly designed just to look good. If you intend to make this RV as your home, you should consider other options.
This is one of the most respected RV brands on the market has been around for decades. The performance and the quality of the RV have been lauded over the years. However, there have been changes, and instead of positive reviews and recommendations, there is an increase in the number of negative reviews and complaints.
Some of the complaints include:
Poor post-sale services
Battery and battery charging problems
The seat covers degrade fast especially in warm climates
Lots of Water damage
Problems Honoring Warranty
Certain Systems Don’t Work Well
Poor customer service
Some of the complaints include:
- Poor after-sale services
- Battery and charging problems
- The seat covers deteriorate fast especially in warm regions
- Water damage
- Problems with honoring of warranty
- system doesn’t work well
- Poor customer service
With these factors under consideration, it is clear that you are better off with other travel trailer brands.
How to choose a good Travel Trailer Brand
The choice of the best recreational vehicle depends on your needs and the numbers on your bank account. However, this doesn’t mean buying a travel trailer from any of the brands mentioned above. These brands have a few positive reviews, but you should look at the big picture to make sure that you don’t start complaining after spending your money.
Some of the things you should consider when buying the best travel trailer include:
- Camping location
For the best experience, your travel trailer should fit on the camping site of your dreams. The Class A RVs are suitable for the full-amenity RV parks. You also have to take into account the power. While small travel trailers are easy to pack, the large travel trailers offer more space but you will be hard pressed in terms of parking space.
- User Reviews
What are other buyers saying about a brand or the majority of travel trailer models under a particular brand name? If there are many complaints, you should avoid buying that RV, keep looking for the RV with desirable features. Even though the trailers aren’t perfect, choose the ones that come with minor issues you can fix.
The worst mistake you can make is buying a travel trailer which is incompatible with your truck. The truck size must match the size of the fifth wheel you intend to pull.
Considering these features ensures that you get the best trailer brand that meets your needs.
